In 2023, a survey was distributed to BC Producers to gauge their familiarity with and interest in BMPs like fall cover crops. The survey gathered valuable insights into how growers perceive adopting this practice’s potential benefits and challenges.
The BC Cattlemen’s Association and BC Forage Council are leading field research for BC’s cattle and forage sector. In partnership with ranchers, they are trialing the practices of using extended grazing and winter grazing. Within extended grazing, ranchers are implementing annual and/or alternative forage crops or cover crops for fall or winter grazing, or fall cover crops for extended fall or spring grazing. Ranchers are implementing a standing cover crop or bale grazing within the winter grazing BMP.
